I'm a little disappointed the Onehunga station plans don't show any bus terminal, unless Onehunga Mall itself is to become the bus terminal. I really think the existing bus terminal should be relocated to beside the rail station, and not just rerouting a few buses that way.

Also still think the Onehunga train timetable leaflet should be subtitled BRITOMART - ONEHUNGA - AIRPORT with each train arrival time at Onehunga followed immediately, in the same row, by a departure time for a bus to the airport. I.e., a through service every 30 minutes, involving a simple train-bus transfer, but marketed, from day 1, as a through service from Britomart to the Airport.

There needs to be some form of public transport from onehunga to the airport, it's damn inconvenient at the moment as you have to double back to get the airport shuttle, go via papatoetoe or if you are going. Mon -fri in the daytime change buses at mangere for the 375.

May aswell coordinate it with the trains.

The Central Leader on Wednesday 16th September says that a station building may be moved to the Onehunga Station site at the lower end of Onehunga Mall.

It is an old station building that would be moved from Alfred Street . Any ideas what they are talking about ?

The original Onehunga railway station building is in Alfred St, and they are considering moving it to the new station site (close to where it was originally).

Thanks for that Geoff - I will have a look out for it - I had always assumed the old station was nearer the Onehunga Shops some how.

The old station building was moved from the railway station site in Onehunga Mall in the 1960's, to Alfred St, where it became the RES clubrooms.

Okay - I get it now.

Bit of a bugger for the RES, if they are wanting it back nearly 50 years after they moved it though !

I'm sure it will only be going if the RES say yes, as it's their building. Presumably they might move with it?

Yes the RES has to agree, they own it completely... They are making heaps of mistakes with this branch re-opening...
Questions most asked by me in 2009:

Will it have bus lanes?

What is the likely amount of induced demand?

Taking into account peak oil?

Hidden parking subsidies?

Surely Joyce isn't goi... He did.

Surely the RES would be very keen to see the building restored to (almost) its original location to be once again used for it's intended purpose?

Perhaps they could still use the building for clubrooms at the station? Sell it back for a cash bonus, and get a peppercorn lease to use it.
The current system was being fixed, now who knows...
