Are the gates any more of an obstacle than the stairs/escalators present at many stations?

Well I have just used the same gates as we are getting in Singapore on the MRT, looking forward to them being operational in Auckland.

Those Thales gates on the SG MRT can process single journey tickets as well as the HOP-style 'EasyLin'k card, as you would have noticed Matt. Why Auckland has chosen to have gates that only handle HOP cards and have someone standing there manually processing single journey tickets, is beyond me. If the argument is that it would be too expensive to have Thales ticket machines and gates process single journey tickets, AT really havent done their research. The cost is most definitely not expensive.

The gates are quite narrow - I'm not that big but I touch the sides as I go through.

Are the open areas on either side going to stay open or are they to be fenced off?

Has the fire service signed off on the design?

Gates like these at those widths are in the aforementioned cities as well as many others like London, Paris, NY, SF, Sydney, Melbourne etc. They all cope.

Note wide gates have been installed for prams, wheelchairs and, uh, the horizontally challenged.

People from all these other cities handle going through these gates, we will too.

Yes, they have to sign it off. Otherwise Britomart would not be open! There will be no open areas, however there are several wider ones designed for Wheelchairs etc, and a manual gate which will be banned.

Will the penalty for using a banned gate be the same as for fare evasion :P

AT have announced the following this morning via email correspondence:
The current HOP card is only available for use on NZ Bus buses. HOP Snapper Cards will be phased out and replaced with the new AT HOP card when NZ Bus services become part of the integrated ticketing system. We will keep customers updated of developments through marketing activity and through information available on both the MAXX and MyHop website.”

Please inform customers that an official announcement will be made next week. We advise customers to sign up for updates at http://www.myhop.co.nz/pages/subscribe.aspx

when NZ Bus services become part of the integrated ticketing system

I think it would be a mistake to launch the system with only Ferries and Trains, - the Bus network must be integrated with it from Day 1

If possible, I'll keep my Snapper-Hop for trips to Wellington.

I have a Red Snapper card that sits at home for the time being so I can use that.

I presume the snaphop cards will still work in Wellington once the switch over has occurred.

Well if your going to put that up. I can now inform you lot that when a card swap takes place the plan was at least when I was last briefed on the matter back in April so I have no idea if it's still the plan or not that cards will be sent out to individual users rather the HOP helper swapping that happened with Go Rider.

When I get my HOP booklet I should know soon enough. Either way things will be known by Monday at least ;)

Just had a thought - will HOP be capable of deducting the $1.00/trip bicycle charge?
