Yes, it is only used on one service but by the time you get it back to the Hutt to run an extra service, peak time is over so the extra capacity isn't required.

Before the timetable change wasnt the SE set being used on an ex-Plimmerton run then hustling up the Hutt to run the last ex-Hutt express?

Not quite. The SE leaves UH at 7.04 and arrives in Wellington at 7.55. By the time it turns around and could back to the Hutt, it would be all over. It did used to run to Plimmerton at 8.10, but that was purely at the insistance of GWRC who wanted thier train to be seen. It served no useful purpose, as there are Ganz sets already spare by then.
Given that the SE is only 404 passengers, slightly less than a 6 car Ganz, is slower between stops and slower at stops and thus much slower overall, and requires specilist staff (only a few have been trained for it), it has its place, but is bnot very flexible and can not simply go onto any old run. Its runs have to be timed for its capibilities.

Some kind of bus stuff up in Manners St this evening - got a trip via Dixon St. There was a bus with "Bus Under Tow" on the desto being attached to a Go Wellington truck at the Manners/Willis stop with 5 or 6 buses stuck behind it.

Breakdown or another "incident"? Hopefully the former ...

The 7:40 service from Taita has suffered from mechanical failures two days in a row now. Yesterday it departed Petone almost 20 mins late, today it departed Petone 30 mins late with 3-cars short and fully loaded.

From Tuesday next week tickets will be clipped at Petone before boarding. I thought it was going to be all station from Waterloo south.

Tranz Metro asks passengers to arrive at the station a little earlier. Not me, I arrive at the same time every morning (8:14am)

They occasionally pop up in the minutes of the Economic Wellbeing Committee's meetings on GW's website.

Was there a delay somewhere on the NIMT today (9/7)? Freights 237 and 221 were at least 4 hours late into Wellington and my best guess is that whatever it was wasnt related to the tornado on the Kapiti Coast since 237 was late into Palmy. Something further north?

Problem with a freight train in the central North Island, around Tangiwai. The southbound Overlander terminated at Hamilton.

The overhead appears to be down on the Hutt Valley Line, sounds like a pantograph snagged a wire or something...

Presumably, although the lack of pictures of trains in the snow is disappointing.

I have seen a photo of a Matangi in thick snow at Trentham.

I have seen a photo of an up train departing Petone in a snow storm.

I have seen a photo of snow on the rooves (sp?) of 1603's carriages.

You just need to know where to look :D
