I am hearing a lot of comments from people in CHC saying that the devastation we se see on TV is nothing compared to what has actually happened. Let the poor employees stay at home and get some semblance of normality into their personal lives before they take a train out and do a SPAD or take a curve at more than the mandated speed because they can't concentrate.
I don't believe much of the public would understand how much leave KR staff have under there belts from not taking leave over the years(due to staff shortages).
From what I have heard, KR recommended that staff down there(Christchurch) take a break, take some time away instead of returning to work, which has apparently happened.
The fact that Geoff mentioned that there is enough staff to drive freight trains on the Main North Line, does not mean they are neccesarily Christchurch based.
Wouldn't surprise me if some have taken a few months leave and got right out of the country(hopefully they didn't choose Japan for crying out loud).
