Marty posted some on NZLocos :)

Photos taken yesterday of trains in heavy snow at Trentham and Waterloo have been posted to the Wellington Rail Gen Yahoo group. Like NZlocos you must be a member to view them.

In answer to john-ston one of them was of a large headlight EE set passing a snow covered Ganz.

After the afternoon snowstorm heavy snow covered the Valley floor, probably for the first time in living memory.

Was down in Wellington last weekend for the Smart Transport New Zealand conference. The conference was great but my #11 bus back to the Airport was over 10 minutes late and I consequently came very close to missing my (JetStar) flight home. Driver offered no explanation why the bus was so late .

I am not the only one utilizing the #11 for my airport travel requirements! Although I sometimes use the #2 if it arrives first!

I was planning to catch the #11 from the Airport to the CBD for the conference as the journey planner only says that it takes 5 minutes longer but it was raining and we couldn't be bothered walking so we caught the Airport Flyer. I did see a couple of other people on the bus going to the Airport but none of them were foolish to book onto a Jet Star flight!

Dredged up this thread as the other one got locked. Couple of recent incidents.

Yesterday: unplanned rail replacement circus caused by some twit getting themselves cleaned by a train near Linden.

A person is dead after being struck by a passenger train in Tawa this afternoon.

Inspector Marty Parker said police were called to the level crossing at Collins Ave about 4.50pm.

The person had been hit by a southbound train, which had passengers on it at the time, Mr Parker said.

Pity that Tawa can't be controlled remotely to allow shuttle trains to reverse there. Hopefully something that'll change with the ongoing upgrades.

Today: over height load brings down the overhead in Newtown.

Bus passengers in Newtown can expect delays this afternoon after a tractor got caught in the trolley bus lines.

A flatbed truck carrying a tractor and mower got caught up in the overhead trolley bus lines on the corner of Riddiford and Constable St just after 3pm, shutting off power to the trolley buses in the area.

Hopefully the council have a similar policy to KR's one on bridge strikes - ie truckie's insurance co pays...

I understand that was the first fatality involving one of the Matangis...

The "twit" appears to have done this delibrately. We can not begin to imagine the depth of dispair someone must reach to carry out this sort of action, but it is not right to reer to them as "twits" in the circumstance. Under NZ law the media are not permitted to report suicides, which is partly why there has been no follow up story.

The Tawa to Porirua stretch of tracks is notorious for people running the tracks. I have witnessed it myself in the past, seen people walking next to and on the tracks.

Despite the warnings of hefty fines, $20k, people still seem to do it.

Maybe its time the council started enforcing these rules instead of just putting up warnings. To date I have never heard of anybody actually being fined for walking the tracks.
Press Release by GWC at 9:53 am, 02 Mar 2010

New trains will be running on all lines by June 2011, GWC confident that the year will end (2010) on a bright note when passengers can enjoy the comfort and convenience of modern Matangi train travel.

It is not a Council bylaw, so the council cannot enforce it.
Trespassing on the rail corridor is an offence under the Railways act 2005, thus it is a Police matter.

So... I'll assume the photo attached to the story is of the train involved, in which case SuperGanz was on the head (but can't be made out clearly in the shot). If so... a very good friend of mine got off that very service at Redwood.

Caught the train into Wellington this morning from Waikanae as my car is in for service.

Long story short, absoulte stuffup. Firstly the train was delayed. Then arrived 30minutes late. Ended up in Wellington 1hour after I planned to be there. The train was jam packed, by the time it got to Paekakariki, it was already jam packed with people standing. At Porirua, it was like a cattle station. And was amazed to see just how many extra passenges can be forced onto an already overcrowded train. Thank goodness I got a seat at Waikanae.

But hey, I got a nice look at all the Matangi's lined up in the Wellington yard, unused and collecting dust.

Oh how novel for you. Since we all know you hate the train did you not ask for a loan car for the day?

I'll leave it to others in the know as to whether there were network issues on the Kapiti Line - if there were then thats unfortunate. And unfortunately loadings would have hit crush in that case.

I could say something here... but I'll refrain

Because NZTA havent given them clearance to be used on the network for unit testing yet, let alone for driver training or revenue service.

Well, all lines were delayed by quite a bit today, apparently due to an 'operational incident'... Hutt trains were running half an hour late for me early this morning.

And to think, overseas new trains are unloaded off the boat, towed to the depot, started, and off they go on a test run. Only in NZ do they sit in the depot for months, waiting for some government department to tick them off.

In Australia QUBE's first new 1100 class from NREC was driven under its own power on the mainline to get to the depot for commissioning. In NZ the DL's sit for weeks before even having their engine started.
