Electrify Now!
Right now, one of the most crucial decisions for the future of Auckland transport lies in the balance, and we need your help. The CBT is promoting a petition to encourage the Government to commit to the electrification of the rail network in Auckland.
Trains are at capacity and new rolling stock is needed. The Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) needs a commitment from the Government to electrification now, as it can take up to three years for the trains to be built and delivered. Right now the Board of ARTA is considering ordering more diesel trains to meet capacity demands.
Electric trains are faster, quieter, more environmentally friendly and cheaper in the long run, but Government decision makers remain unconvinced.
We are sure that most Aucklanders want electrification, but we need to demonstrate this support. Help promote electrification and make Auckland a better city by signing our online petition, writing to your MP and spreading the word to electrify now.
